Casino – A Review
Casino is a type of gambling establishment that offers various types of games of chance and has amenities such as restaurants, bars, and live entertainment. It is not uncommon for casinos to offer comps to large spenders, such as free hotel rooms and dinners, tickets to shows, or even limo service. These incentives are designed to keep players playing for as long as possible, which is why the house always wins.
Besides being a fun place to gamble and socialize, the casino can also be an excellent place for group fun. Many casinos have amenities that cater to groups, such as buffets and lounge areas. Visiting a casino with friends can make the experience even more enjoyable and create memories that will last a lifetime.
While Goodfellas presented the worldview of blue collar mobster gangsters, Casino takes the opposite approach. It gives a birds-eye view of the inner circle of casino operators who control Vegas, and how they can fall from power due to greed, lust, and hubris. It’s an impressive movie with well-defined characters engaging in compelling drama.
In one of the film’s early sequences, with deliberate echoes of the Copacabana interlude in Goodfellas, we see Lester hustling Ginger on her damn wedding night. The look on his face says everything about his character, and the way he cares only about himself and his own machismo is a clear indicator of his eventual downfall. There are plenty of other moments that capture the film’s tone, including Ace slamming a crooked dice stack on the table and Nicky beating a guy three times his size.
